Our wireless router (Fritzbox 7390) is on the first floor. On the third floor directly under the roof (almost vertically so through two blankets and a distance of about eight meters) I've ever had problems with various USB adapters:
AVM USB stick was hot and had constant disconnections. The AVM repeater could convince either. A Belkin USB stick was ok, but not outstanding. The most reliable was a Netgear USB WiFi adapter. But common to all was that at times the signals were too weak and the connection demolition. What were the causes (neighbors wifi networks, microwave ovens, Dect phones, other sources etc.) can hardly comprehend. However, if one can realize on "good" days, only a maximum of two five bars or 15-20% of maximum transmit / receive power, then there is no greater power, when things get tight.
So I was guided by the many positive reviews. And I was not disappointed. The USB Wireless LAN Adapter can be installed quickly. On the enclosed mini-CD-Rom you will find both the USB drivers for various versions of Windows, as well as a small Utilitiy tool that can be set up with the intuitive wifi adapter and network connections. You can also install ONLY the drivers solo (then on the CD for the Setup.exe into the driver folder vorklicken) - in addition to the included software utility / Config application, you can (but you do not) the use of other / additional USB Set adapter or its network connection.
For me there was no driver problems. Adapter could be. Both under Win7 32 and 64 bit integrated easily (there are also some for XP and Vista included) USB driver problems are usually due to incompatible components on the motherboard.
Tip: If the driver does not install, just sometimes directly through the Windows Device Manager to try. Worked for me several times already.
After installing the wifi adapter was immediately ready for use. The range indicator is four to five bars or between 70-90% transmission / reception performance. A real improvement so. The data throughput is very high and stablil which he applied 16,000 DSL line can therefore make full use of.
If one wants to receive vertically as in my case, from the bottom, it makes sense to unfold the two antenna stub so that they are parallel to the floor. This is because omnidirectional antennas exactly perpendicular to its axis of the antenna receive and send signals. Makes one bar or up to 15% with me from.
Summary:
+ Good value for money
+ Stable connection, no disconnections
+ Works well on several levels in the vertical
+ High data throughput
+ Compatible with Win XP, Vista, 7, both 32 and 64bit
+ Installation quick and easy
+ Config tool is intuitive to use
Can an unconditional recommendation for anyone who pronounce their existing WLAN USB adapter failed due to room conditions.
Supplement dated 3.3.2013:

Excellent quality/price ratio, for sure.
ReplyDeleteI was worried about lagging in videogames or maybe even on youtube videos, but I was wrong...
BF4 runs like a charm (if you can ignore the myriad of bugs it has right now, but that's another story)...
